Abstract
Usaha laundry merupakan kegiatan usaha jasa yang banyak menghasilkan limbah cair. Pembuangan limbah yang berasal dari kegiatan usaha laundry masih dibuang ke lingkungan tanpa ada pengolahan. Limbah laundry mengandung senyawa aktif metilen biru (surfaktan) yang sulit terdegradasi dan berbahaya bagi kesehatan maupun lingkungan. Diperlukan suatu upaya pengolahan limbah yang berasal dari kegiatan laundry untuk mengurangi pencemaran lingkungan. Filtrasi media karbon aktif dan proses antifoaming merupakan alternatif pengolahan dalam menurunkan kadar surfaktan dalam air limbah laundry. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan penurunan antara filtrasi media karbon aktif dan proses antifoaming. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen semu dengan rancangan one group pretest and posttest design. Variabel bebas dalam penelitian ini adalah filtrasi dengan media karbon aktif dan proses antifoaming, sedangkan variabel terikatnya adalah kadar deterjen air limbah laundry. Variabel pengganggu yang dikendalikan adalah jenis media, jenis antifoam, lama kontak, kecepatan aliran, dosis antifoam, ketebalan media, dan kecepatan pengadukan. Uji statistik yang digunakan adalah uji t untuk sampel berpasangan dan uji t untuk sampel independen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kadar deterjen sebelum pengolahan adalah 100,3 mg/liter, rata-rata kadar deterjen sesudah filtrasi media karbon aktif adalah 42 mg/liter dan proses antifoaming 92,47 mg/liter. Dari hasil penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan penurunan kadar deterjen air limbah laundry yang signifikan antara kedua perlakuan. Filtrasi dengan media karbon aktif mempunyai kemampuan yang lebih baik daripada proses antifoaming dalam menurunkan kadar deterjen air limbah laundry. Kata Kunci: deterjen, laundry, antifoaming, karbon aktif, filtrasi LAUNDRY THE DIFFERENCE OF DETERGENT DEGREE REDUCTION BETWEEN FILTRATION WITH ACTIVATED CARBON MEDIA AND ANTIFOAMING PROCESS IN LAUNDRY WASTEWATER Laundry was an activity that produced a lot of wastewater. Wastewater discharged into environment without any treatment. Laundry wastewater contain surface active agents (surfactant) which need longer time to degrade and harmful to human health and environment. A laundry wastewater treatment effort is needed due to reduce environmental pollution. Filtration with activated carbon media and antifoaming process were treatment alternatives to reduce surfactant concentration in laundry wastewater. This research was intended to find out the difference of detergent degree reduction between filtration with activated carbon media and antifoaming process. This research applied quasi experiment method with the planning one group pretest and posttest design. In this research independent variables used were filtration with activated carbon media and antifoaming process, then dependent variable was detergent degree of laundry wastewater. Controlled confounding variables were media type, antifoam agent, contacting time, wastewater flow rate, antifoam dosage, media height, and stirring rate. Statistic test utilized was paired sample t test and independent sample t test. This research result showed that detergent degree before treatments at 100,3 mg/liter, average degree after filtration was 42 mg/liter, average degree after antifoaming process was 92,47 mg/liter. As the conclusion, there was difference on detergent degree before and after both treatment, there was difference on detergent degree between both treatment. Filtration with actvated carbon media is better than antifoaming process to reduce detergent degree in laundry wastewater.
