Abstract

On the aeroplane structural design, one of limitation is due the appearing phenomenon in aeroelasticity. One of aeroelasticity phenomenon that limits an aeroplane design is flutter, where its occurrence will limit the speed of an aeroplane and will be catastrophic. In this study, a simulation had been done to increase the speed of flutter by implementing an active control system. In the implementation of this active control system, a PID compensator to combine used in a first order filter. While the quiet aerodynamic force quantity was determinated using a Theodorsen’s formulation and Roger approximation. To decide the value of proportional, integral and derivative gain, this study utilize PID tuning with an actuator constraint. By using gradient descent, pattern search (a method of searching with a genetic algorithm) and simplex search optimizations method, it can be searched an optimal gain value. The results obtained shows that the flutter speed can be increased by implementing an active control system. Finally, simulation results show that optimization of PID gain value with the pattern search method (a method of searching with a genetic algorithm) yields the best result.
