Abstract

Air adalah bahan yang sangat penting untuk hidup dan kehidupan. Air harus memiliki persyaratan bail kulaitas maupun kuantitas. Kandungan fe sering berada si atas standar, sehingga dapat menimbulkan berbagai macam gangguan. Kadar Fe air sumur gali di Desa Bantarsari Kecamatan Bantarsari Kabupaten Cilacap pada tahun 2003 mencapai 3,517 mg/l sehingga peeerlu pengolahan apabila digunakan. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan variasi ketebalan(60 cm, 80 cm dan 100 cm) saringan pasir aktif pada penurunan kadar Fe air sumur gali. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah experimen semu. Populasinya adalah air sumur gali yang mengandung kadar Fe di atas standar persyaratan kualitas dengan ditandai dengan bau amis dan berwarna kuning kecoklatan di RT 7 RW 6 Desa Bantarsari Kecamatan Bantarsari Kabupaten Cilacap. Bahan dan cara pemeriksaan air menggunakan metode fenantrolin dengan enam kali replikasi pengambilan sampel. Dari hasil penelitian di dapatkan kadar Fe sebelum sebesar 3,672 mg/l dan sesudah disaring pada ketebalan 60 cm rata-rata sebesar 0,215 mg/l.Ketebalan 70 cm sebesar 0,081 mg/l, ketebalan 80 cm sebesar 0,068 mg/l, ketebalan 90 cm sebesar 0,055 mg/l dan ketebalan 0,037 mg/l. Jadi ada perbedaan penurunan kadar Fe pada berbagai variasi ketebalan pasir aktif. Semakin besar ketebalan saringan pasir aktif semakin besar pula penurunannya dengan ketebalan yang paling efektif adalah ketebalan saringan pasir aktif 60 cm. Dengan hasil penelitian tersebut peneliti menyarankan kepada pemilik sumur gali Desa Bantarsari agar menggunakan saringan pasir aktif pada ketebalan 60 cm karena lebih efektif dan efisien, tetapi apabila didinginkan penuruan yang lebih besar dapat menggunakan ketebalan lapisan pasir aktif 100 cm.
