Abstract

This research background is on a portrait of government officials in Indonesia, which often revolve around the lack of professionalism, work culture and work ethic that is still low. As we all know that the aim of the performance of government officials are to provide public services, to simplify public affairs, to streamline services and to provide satisfaction to the public. One of these government officials is the Ministry of Finance officials. This study aims to examine the influence of locus of control, goal orientation, task complexity and leadership style to employee performance. The independent variables are locus of control, goal orientation, task complexity and leadership style. Whereas the dependent variable is employee performance. The data in this study is questionnaire data collected from 99 employees of the Ministry of Finance by using purposive sampling method. The data were tested using multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS 17. The results of this study indicate that internal locus of control has positive and significant impact on employee performance; external locus of control and no significant negative effect on staff performance; The learning goal orientation has positive effect and it is significant on staff performance; The performance avoidance goal orientation has negative effect and significant on staff performance; The performance approach goal orientation has positive effect and not significant on staff performance; The task complexity has negative effect and no significant on staff performance; consideration leadership style has negative affect and not significant on staff performance whereas the initiatives leadership style has positive affect and significant to employee performance.
