Abstract

Steam ejector refrigerator is refrigeration system uses waste heat to generate useful refrigeration. Steam ejector holds an exhibition as replacement of compressor in the vapor compression cycle. Steam ejector refrigerator has low COP, therefore it is necessary to develop researching to improve the performance of steam ejector. The performance of steam ejector can be represented by entrainment ratio defined by ratio of mass flow rate of suction to mass flow rate of motive. The increase of entrainment ratio in steam ejector effects on the increase of COP value of the refrigeration system. In this research, simulation was done by modification the diameter nozzle of steam ejector and also by varying the operation condition such as pressure and temperature by CFD. The nozzle diameter used in this study are nozzle diameter with it’s area ratio of ejector of 7.27 (nozzle A) and 6.73 (nozzle E). The temperature of motive was varied at 85oC, 95oC, 105oC and 115oC. The results of the simulation show that the performance line of ejector with nozzle A is better than ejector with nozzle E, the increase of motive temperature effects on the decrease of the entrainment ratio. Key words : COP, steam ejector, entrainment ratio, nozzle Steam ejector refrigerasi merupakan sistem refrigerasi dengan memanfaatkan panas buangan sebagai inputnya. Steam ejector berperan sebagai pengganti kompresor pada siklus kompresi uap. Steam ejector refrigerasi memiliki COP yang rendah, sehingga perlu dilakukan penelitian untuk mengoptimalkan kinerja dari steam ejector. Kinerja steam ejector dapat dilihat dari besarnya nilai entrainment ratio yaitu perbandingan laju aliran massa suction dengan laju aliran massa motive. Peningkatan nilai entrainment ratio pada steam ejector dapat meningkatkan COP dari sistem refrigerasi tersebut. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan simulasi dengan modifikasi diameter nosel steam ejector dan variasi kondisi operasi seperti tekanan dan temperatur dengan menggunakan CFD. Diameter nosel yang digunakan yaitu diameter nosel A dan nosel E dengan rasio area ejector 7,27 dan 6,73. Variasi temperatur motive yang diberikan yaitu 85oC, 95oC, 105oC dan 115oC. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan garis optimasi ejector nosel A lebih tinggi daripada nosel E, dan semakin tinggi temperatur motive mengakibatkan entrainment ratio semakin menurun.
