Some Factors Related to Health Workers Work Performance of Tuberculosis Program in Finding A New Cases of Positive Tuberculosis in Tasikmalaya City Year 2008

Abstract

Coverage of positive Tuberculosis (TB) new case finding by health workers of TB program at Health Center level in Tasikmalaya city in the past three years had not satisfied (in year 2004 : 62%, in year 2005 : 30%, and in year 2006 : 62.5%). The program of TB eradication will not succeed without efforts of case finding and treatment. Aim of this research was to identify factors related to health workers work performance of TB program concerning coverage of positive TB case finding in Tasikmalaya City. This was observational research. Number of sample was 26 respondents who were all implementers of TB program and the laboratory officers at 13 Health Centers. Data were colletcted using a structured questionnaire and analyzed statistically using Rank-Spearman test. Result of this research shows that most of the respondents have good knowledge (80.8 %), good training (57.7 %), good perception to job (73.1 %), good perception to reward (80.0 %), good perception to means (76.9 %), good motivation (80.8 %), good attitude (69.2 %), and good work performance (65.4 %). The factors that have significant relationship with health workers work performance in finding positive TB new case are knowledge (p value = 0.000), training (p value = 0.024), perception to job (p value = 0.002), perception to leadership (p value = 0.002), perception to means (p value = 0.004), and attitude (p value = 0.006). To increase new case finding of positive TB, Tasikmalaya City Health Office should improve supervision for implements of TB program, involve health cadres, and form the Indonesia Tuberculosis Eradication Group. Beside that, the office should improve cooperation with other sectors especially that, the office should improve cooperation with other sectors especially private medical doctors and hospitals for recording and reporting of positive TB new case finding. Health Center should recruit the specific officer for implementing the TB program, improve promotion of TB program in community, make a group of TB care, and improve cooperation with health cadres, religion leaders, and community leaders in Tasimalaya City.
