Abstract

Abstract Number of empirical evidence that indicates if excessive TV watching habits in children lead to various negative impacts, ranging from psychological disorders, sociological, psychological backdrop to this research. Problems that become the focus of this research is whether environmental factors at home TV media and the role of parental influence on the quantity of time spent on the kids to watch TV. The purpose of this study was to determine if environmental factors in the home TV media, such as the number of available TV sets at home and the role of parents as the application of rules about watching TV and accompany their children while watching TV can be a variable prekditor and control over the amount of time or hours who used the children to watch TV. By using several variables from the research data on Media Education in Schools conducted by lecturers Fisip Diponegoro University majoring in Communication Studies in cooperation with Unicef and YPMA Institute, this study tried to answer the problems and goals with melakuakan significance test between the selected variables, research methods used is a secondary analysis of data. While the basic theory used to formulate hypotheses are the results of empirical research about the media habits of children, as reported by the Keiser Family Foundation (1999, 2004 and 2010). The results showed no finding of a significant relationship and influence between variable number of TV sets at home, the existence of rules and togetherness tentangga use the TV while watching TV with a variable quantity of time watching TV on children. The results contradict the initial hypothesis was caused by the different factual conditions on the object of research and the existence of some deficiencies in terms of research methodology. However, parents remain consistently recommended to always monitor their children when interacting with TV. Providing access restrictions and conduct mediation while watching TV is the real efforts that can be done by parents. Key words: Children, Media, Television
