Abstract

One of the efforts to reduce maternal mortality rate is to improve antenatal services by improving mother’s knowledge about the danger of pregnancy, childbirth, infant, and children under five years old using the Mother and Child Health (MCH) Handbook. Content of the handbook consisits of health notes for a mother (pregnancy, childbirth, and parturition) and a child (infant and children under five years old) especially in terms of antenatal health services. The book can be used for early detection while a pregnant woman has disorders or health problems. Furthermore, activities of promotion and prevention can be performed immediately. The use of the handbook in District of Kolaka has not been properly implemented. Pregnant women must have notes of health progress, which can be brought to health services while they are seeking a care. Midwives must record health status of pregnant women while they provide antenatal services. Aim of this research was to identify the factors that influence the use of Mother and Child Health Handbook in antenatal services by midwives in District of Kolaka. This was observational research using descriptive-analytic method and cross-sectional approach. Sample was carried out by using simple random sampling. The result of this research shows that most of the respondents have age between 27-39 years old, work length between 9-19 years, educational level D1, and never followed training of the book. Most of respondents include in a sufficients category for variables of knowledge, motivation, perception towards supervision, and use of the book. All respondents perceive lack of the book availability. Based on statistical analysis using logistic regression test, variables of knowledge and motivation significantly influence the use of the handbook. Otherwise, variables of perception towards supervision and availability of the handbook have not significanlty correlation with the use of the handbook Sumber Utama : www.mikm.undip.ac.id
