Abstract

Along with the increasing electricity demand and depletion of fossil fuel reserves, renewable alternative energy sources (renewable energy). Of the most renewable energy sources, if viewed from the side of availability, it is pretty much one of them is the energy of ocean currents (ocean current energy). Indonesia is part of its area is water, which is approaching two-thirds of the region holds the potential energy of water currents are very large. Today , has developed Gorlov turbine efficient water flow to extract energy from water currents without using dams. So, one of the most important aspects in designing a turbine blade is hydrofoil election. The final project research analyzed the aerodynamic of hydrofoil characteristics NACA 0012 with angle of attack variation 0o to 180o with a few variations of speed, which is 2 m / s, 2.5 m / s, 3 m / s, 3.5 m / s and 4 m / s. The method used is to perform numerical calculations using Computational Fluid The simulation results will show the characteristics of the lift coefficient and drag coefficient of the hydrofoil which subjected to variation of angle of attack with speed.
