Abstract

Nowadays, the demand of electricity has increased in Indonesia. If this condition keep increasing, Indonesia would be threatened by the electricity shortages. So that, as a country which is surrounded by sea, Indonesia is better to begin exploit the sufficient energy of marine current to solve the restriction of electricity energy. Moreover, this condition is supported by the developing of Gorlov marine current turbine which operates on the speed of marine current starts at 0.6 m/s with high efficiency when it compared with others marine current turbines. Among of the most important thing which is determines the level of Gorlov turbine efficiency is selecting appropriate hydrofoil. In this research a methodology of hydrofoil design based on computation has been developed. By using the mathematical physical formulation modeling and numerical method in Grid Generation for Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulation programme, this methodology can be used to find out the comparative analysis of Hidrodynamic characteristics of NACA 0015 hydrofoil. Result of this research showed that the computational simulation of α = 0o – 360o have a characteristic fluctuation data in angle of attack distance on the top sinusodial curve. This result is different from previous experiment data
