Abstract
The most important thing from the regional development by implementing the regional autonomy is improving the regional motivation to have a high growth rate. If that thing happens, it will cause the improvement of regional gap because the high regional potency will be richer but the low regional potency will be poorer. One of the Central Java Government policies to create a balance between economy growth rate and per capita income is through regional cooperation concept. Purwomanggung region is one of the result of that policy which consist are these districts: Purworejo, Wonosobo, Magelang, Temanggung, and Magelang City as the growth pole. The problem of this research is Magelang as a growth pole is have not been a fast growth city yet, and the dominant contribution sector towards GDRP is still having a low growth. This research aims to identify the economic interaction Magelang City with hinterland and analize the potential economic sector for the development of Magelang City. The kind of data that used for this research are secondary data since 2003 – 2008 from BPS Central Java Province and Magelang City, BAPPEDA Central Java Province and Magelang City journey and also related literature about this research. Analysis method that used are Gravity model, Location Quotient analysis (LQ), Growth Ratio Model (GRM), Overlay analysis, and Shift Share analysis. This research is show based on gravity analysis, the decision to announce Magelang City as a growth pole was not always good because the low economic interaction between Magelang City with hinterland. The regency which has strong interaction with Magelang City are Magelang Regency and Temanggung Regency which can be enlarge as a cooperation partner in regional development. Based on Overlay and Shift Share analysis shows that the decision of choose Magelang City as a growth pole is very correct because it has many potential sector such as: electricity sector, building sector, transportation sector, trade sector, financial sector, and service sector. Among the sixth sectors that become the first priority of Magelang City development is transportation sector, the second is electricity sector, trade sector, finansial sector and the third is service sector. From all those analysis above, it can be conclude that Magelang city has not complete yet some criteria of the growth pole, because Magelang City have less interesting view for hinterland, although it has potential sector, but the sector growth progress is still low.
