Evaluation on Community Empowerment seen through Capacity Building During PNPM Mandiri Perkotaan, Sastrodirjan Village, Pekalongan District

Abstract

Community empowerment is an attempt to empower a community through learning efforts to enable them to manage and be responsible for the development programs in their community. The learning is implemented in a series of community capacity development, which execution shall be adapted to the characteristics and capabilities of the local community. This research aims to evaluate the community empowerment activities in the PNPM Mandiri Perkotaan Project at Sastrodirjan village. The goals are to review the implementation of community capacity development, to assess the community’s attitude and outlook on community empowerment and to assess the community empowerment level at Sastrodirjan Village. The approach of this research is a deductive research utilizing descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative method of analysis. The study results notes on the community capacity development activities in Sastrodirjan village which have been conducted in accordance to the principles of community empowerment and have succeeded in changing the level of public awareness and increasing their understanding to participate in the development. The community of Sastrodirjan Village has realized and understood the concept of empowerment and implementation for the benefit of their community, yet, the community needs more learning for the adjustment process so that they are ready to fully responsible to manage the development. The community is also ready to continue the empowerment program which will make it sustainable.
