Abstract

Bergas Sub district which is one of the sub-districts in Semarang has rapid development. Income from industrial sector reached 60, 25% from total sub-district’s PDRB, with average industrial growth rate per annum up to 11,6%. Rapid industrial growth in Bergas sub-district has not been yet accommodated in industrial area planning which is managed by industrial estate, so the higher land demand to industrial activity and its supporting activity will effect the land conversion and the change of irregularly land use pattern. For this reason, it requires a research to see how land use pattern is formed and how big the effect of industrial development to the land use pattern change in Bergas sub-district. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of industrial development to the land use pattern change in Bergas sub-district, Semarang. This research uses quantitative and qualitative approach, descriptive analysis, and overlay spatial analysis. Analysis result of statistical data demonstrates that industrial development is in almost all area and dominated by garment industry. From spatial analysis, some industrial cluster, that is furniture industry and garment industry are found. Industrial development also influences land use pattern which has conversed. The land use pattern change is mostly in path across industrial area while the other path does not undergo many changes. From the survey result it is known that 40,5% from land expansion in society used to industrial activity are farm land and 47% are tegalan (not irrigated field) which has been purchased from society.
