Abstract

An observational experiment has been conducted to analyze the variance component, and its contribution to body weight traits at Etawa Grade. This experiment was conducted at Sumberejo Goat Breeding Center- Kendal Regency in June, 2006. Materials used werethe records of about 102 birth data obtaining from the mating between 7 rams and 76 ewes. Data used were pedegree, birth date, birth type, sex, weaning time, age at partum, birth weight and weaning weight. The weight data were classified into two groups, that was data without standardization and data standardized into male and single birth bases. Parameters observed were birth type, sex, birth weight and weaning weight. The t-test was peformed for data without standardized. The variance components of nested standardization data was analyzed by using SAS (Statistical Analysis System) program. The results showed that male was larger than female both for birth weight and weaning wight, as well as the single birth was larger than that of twin. Variance componen of birth wight was 0.0008, 0.0235 and 0,0669 for ram, ewes and kid, respectively. Meanwhile, variance component of weaning weight was 0.2611, 1.8720 and 0.0843 for ram, ewes and kid, repectively. In conclusion, variance component of birth weight was the largest contributed by kid ( (73%) and variance components of weaning weight was the largest contributed by ewes (84%).
