Abstract

One of the aims of Family Planning Program in Development Plan of National Medium Term year 2004-2009 is to increase the use of long term contraception method namely Intra Uterine Device (IUD) in which it is theoretically ideal for all reproductive age couples. Percentage of IUD acceptors at Sub District of Oebobo was 3.38% lower than percentage of other family planning methods especially non long term contraception methods namely injection method (56.64%) and pill (38.26%). Its condition was accounted for individual characteristics, number of children, family planning request, intermediate factor, program development, provider factor, output of services (access, services quality, and image), and the use of health services). According to health behavior theory, those problems happened in predisposing, enabling, reinforcing factors, and the use of family planning contraception methods. Aim of this research was to identify the factors related to the use of IUD at Sub District of Oebobo, Kupang City using survey method and cross-sectional approach. The result of this research shows that most of the respondents have an income ≥ Rp 600.000 (75.0%), high education level (76.0%), sufficient knowledge about IUD (65.0%), sufficient attitude towards IUD (61.0%), sufficient attitude towards health workers (61.0%), sufficient perception towards facilities (62.0%), sufficient accessibility (64.0%), and low family planning counseling. Result of in-depth interview shows that respondents who do not want to use IUD have some reasons namely they feel shame, afraid during installation, afraid of side effect, expensive, and not available of IUD at health services. Most of the respondents (80.0%) said that IUD method does not contradict religion and local culture. Sumber Utama : www.mikm.undip.ac.id
