Abstract

Cultural Relativism is owned by every society or group which has developed its culture. It becomes one of the reasons of someone’s action. It is also used to determine an action that is done by someone whether it is good or evil. However, the assessment is according to the character of its culture. This thesis aims to study a number of intrinsic elements, such as, character and characterization, plot, and setting, the relevance of culture relativism with morality, and to show the existence of cultural relativism of the Indian Sioux and the white people of America which produce conflicts between them. To get the data, the writer used the novel Sioux Dawn by Terry C. Johnston. And then, in analyzing the data the writer uses the descriptive method by library research because the data are analyzed through a systematic, factual, and accurate description of facts using library data collected. The approach methods to analyze the topic are philosophical and sociological approaches. Those approaches use some sociology and philosophy theories to support the analysis. The result shows that there is a reason which causes the Indian Sioux to have conflicts with the white people of America. It is caused by the differences of their cultures, such as, the difference in providing the food, clothing, and shelter. The cultural relativism of the Indian Sioux and the white people of America really exist in this novel shown by the character and characterization, plot, and setting.
