Abstract

At the present, demand of electric power progressively increas, therefore product of electric power have to with quality and have high reliability. The biggest trouble in electric power system happened in distribution and transmission lines, and trouble which often happened is lightning stroke. This matter because of Indonesia are in Katulistiwa with tropical climate and high humidity, so that Indonesia have hight number of lightning stroke. In this final project will make simulation of lightning stroke and lightning arrester performance on distribution lines 20 kV using EMTP (Electromagnetic Transient Program), that will make observation about lightning stroke. As case study,we will used main feeder Mojosongo 1 20 kV, three phase lines. From simulation of lightning stroke 20 kA in By1-61-61E-84-9I on S phase at 0,1 ms, will experience of increase of voltage on S phase was 1.304,4 kV and for R phase and T phase will experience of increase of induced voltage were 794,83 kV and 804,28 kV. Then we will see performance of MOV Arrester (Metal Oxide Varistor) in overcoming lightning stroke trouble, where arrester can decreasing voltage till 15,198 kV on S phase, while at R phase and T phase arrester can decreace voltage till 11,376 kV and 13,616 kV.
