Abstract

There is a need of practical method in data acquisition system as the rapid advance of technology development. One of data acquisition technology application is fluid level monitoring system. It can be applied on gasoline level monitoring system in gas station, water level in water tank, etc. Conventional monitoring system could lead to data inaccuracy. Therefore, the research about fluid level data acquisition using digital image processing is done. The fluid monitoring system uses webcam and digital image processing as the monitoring process. The purpose of the final project is to be able to monitor fluid level in real time. The system is tested by comparing aquarium water height level with indicator height level in the application. Setting of timer, threshold, and indicator start position are determined before conducting automatic image processing. The testing is conducted by arranging camera and aquarium distance variations, water colors and aquarium background colors. Distance variations between camera and aquarium are 90cm, 120cm, and 150cm, while water color variations used for testing are blue, green, and red. Background variations are yellow, white, and blue. The monitoring results are number showing water capacity value and image streaming taken from webcam. Testing results show that the least average percentage error 0%, otherwise the biggest error percentage is 50%, error in image processing indicator reading is caused by light reflection.
