Abstract
A general problem on the shore area is abration, which mainly it is caused by sea wave activities. One of the abration prevention methods is by using breakwater structure. Structure breakwater typed armour stone or concrete becomes uneconomical when is used in isolated seashores. that have limited infra structure and material sources. One of ways to overcome the limitation at infrastructure and material sources is by using sand bag as the breakwater. The use of sand bag as the submerged breakwater is less the use of material, it can be use local material and it can also be done with limited equipment. The other of this advantage, the sand bag is the elastic material, it's increased the contact area between of sand bags, so expected that increased the stability. Therefore, it needs a research about behavior of stability the sand bag breakwater. This is experimental research with physical model 2-D done in Flume Tank of Environmental and Sea Energy Laboratory in Marine Engineering - FTK ITS Surabaya. The range of wave height between 10cm to 22cm, the period is constant, 1.5 second. The model height is 50cm, so that the freeboard is 0cm. The Model parameters reviewal are slope and configuration of sand bag. The result of test showed that the damage of model due to waves is depends upon slope of model and configuration of sand bag. keywords : stability, sand bag breakwater, configuration of sand bag
