Abstract

Total knee replacement (TKR) is used to replace a damaged knee joint with implant materials to make an artificial human knee. The objective of TKR is curing the knee pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis, infection, osteoarthritis, and hard impact at the knee. This research discusses about the contact pressure and the von Mises stress prediction of UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) material on TKR. The non linier material model’s based on Shi model and Jones model are simulated in finite element method during the gait cycle. The effect of the thickness and material model of UHMWPE on tibial are observed. The observed tibial thicknesses are 6.8 mm and 11 mm respectely. The result’s of the present model based on static contact simulation performs good agreement with the rolling contact of Shi model. The von Mises stress of the present model has the similar value compared to the von Mises stress of Jones model.
