Abstract
Contact mechanics is a science that study the mechanism of contact between two solids. The contact can be in the case of line, point and surface. This research analyze the contact between a sphere and a rough surface. The material property that is used in this modelling is elastic-plastic with strain hardening. In this research is taken static contact problem between a rigid indenter vs a rough surface. The displacement that given to the rigid indenter wich contacting to the rough surface is the analysis parameter to determine maximum contact pressure. The approximation model in this reaserch uses a commercial finite element software ABAQUS6.5-1. Modelling and simulation procedures are perfomed and compared with the result of Bhowmik. The results show that load vs displacement close to the results of Bhowmik. Asperity with 0.5 mm pitch will have more contact than the one with 1.5 mm pitch for the same load. Variation indenter also give the same results. The bigger geometry, the more contact of asperity will be and the bigger elastic-plastic boundary will be resulted when the bigger load are applied.
