Abstract

A Train brake block is a part of a train and is used to hold up a train when is needed, there for a reliable brake is required for a giant vehicle such as a train. A clutch train is made from a cast iron and it has some weaknesses such as a short threadbare age, a big mass and also a high salvage value. A1/SiC metal matrix composite used aluminium as a matrix and SiC as a stimulant. Alumunium is heated until it melted then mixes it with SiC filings, and then pours it into a casting mould. KML A1/SiC 2% and 5% is not yet able to replace a cast iron because from the value of hardness, friction and the absorbed energy is not yet accomplish as we expected. The value of hardness for Al-SiC 2% is 114,48 VHN, Al-SiC 5% is 104,73 VHN and cast iron is 227,34 VHN. The value of friction for Al-SiC 2% is 7,527 x 10-8mm2/kg, Al-SiC 5% is 11,156 x 10-8mm2/kg and cast iron is 5,612 x 10-8mm2/kg. The value of absorbed energy by material Al-SiC 2% is 0,387 joule, Al-SiC 5% is 0,249 joule and cast iron is 2,694 joule. To obtain A1/SiC iron matrix composite synthesis result, an expanding examination is needed with a variation A1-SiC Composition.
