Abstract

The process of age hardening in Al-Cu alloys were controlled heat treatment process which aims to improve the mechanical properties of hardness value and increase the value of tensile strength. In this study, alloy in question is Al-4% Cu, Al-10% Cu, and Al-33% Cu. Where each alloy obtained by casting the pieces of aluminum and copper using krusibel dismal fuel stoves with LPG. The resulting mixture then conducted to test the composition of the examination content of the element in which the percentage of. Then alloys formed in accordance profile tensile test specimens in accordance with ASTM standard E-8 by using a lathe. Specimens that have been so included in the oven during the age hardening process. This process consists of three stages, the first stage of solution treatment phase aims to produce fully developed α, quenching the second stage, aims to maintain and phase α ¸ θ phase continues to keep growing. The third stage of aging, which aims to increase grain precipitates. This sediment grains play an important role in improving the mechanical properties of Al-Cu alloys. Hardness values and tensile strength of specimens increases after the age hardening treatment. This process increases the influence on the mechanical properties of alloys of Al-4% Cu, because in point of this alloy deposits appear in the phase α of the most fully developed. This can be explained by the micro structure and phase diagram of Al-Cu alloys.
