Abstract

Background: Phyllanthus niruri L can increase activity and function some of specific and non specific either humoral or cellular immunity component. The aim of this study was emphasized on the effect of Phyllanthus niruri L extract to limphocyte morphology and nitric oxide(NO) production of macrophage Balb/C mice that infected Salmonella typhimurium. Method: This study adapts laboratory experimental and The Post Only Control Group Design. The 30 male Balb/C ( 8-10 weeks old and average weight 20-30 grams) was divided into 5 groups and received standart lab diet daily. Group P1 was given P. niruri 125 μg/day and infected with S. typhimurium, P2 was given P. niruri 250 μg/day and infected with S. typhimurium, P3 was given P. niruri 500 μg/day and infected with S. typhimurium, K1 was infected with S.typhimurium, K2 without any treatment. In the 7th day all groups was terminated for examination. Within group difference of data were analized by One Way ANOVA. Difference within groups was analized by Post Hoc Test Bonferroni. Result: There are no significant difference in lymphocyte proliferation and nitric oxide production of macrophage between treatment groups and positive control group. Conclution: Phyllanthus niruri L extract not increase lymphocyte proliferation and nitric oxide production of macrophage in Balb/C mice. Keyword: Phyllanthus niruri L, lymphocyte proliferation, Nitric oxide production of macrophage.
