Abstract

Families are the bedrock of all societies. From the family, people, espescially children, are learning to be a good person. But sometimes, parents as the teacher in family can not give a good example for the kid. Therefore, the writer chooses the issue of dysfunctional family as the topic of her thesis entitled “Degradasi Peran dan Fungsi Ayah Sebagai Kepala Keluarga Dalam Film Kartun The Simpsons Movie” (“Degradation of Roles and Functions of Father as the Head of Household in the Animation Movie of The Simpsons Movie”). The purpose of the thesis is to find out the roles and functions of father as the head of household in the animation film of “The Simpsons Movie”. In writing the thesis, the writer uses library research as the method of research. It means that the writer gets the information from the books and other audio visual sources. As the methods of approaches, the writer uses structural methods and psychological theory. The structural methods which are being used are characters, setting and plot. While for the psychological approach, the writer uses psycoanalitic theory of Sigmund Freud, which consists of id, ego, and superego. Since the thesis is using movie as the object, the writer adds the cinematography theories as the media to discuss the movie. The character of Homer Simpson as the head of household of the Simpsons family is a bad example of father. He usually does something without thinking. From the perspective of psychoanalitic, Homer does not have mental structure balance. The acts of Homer mostly because he wants to do that. It means that id is the most influencing mental structure of Homer. The ego can not control the id’s impulses. Therefore, Homer often bring his family in danger.
