Abstract
Background: Dandruff is the excessive scales production of the scalp without or less the signs of inflamations.Honey is natural product which have the character of antioxidant, antibiotic and antifungal. Ketoconazole is antifungal works by blocking ergosterol synthesis that is an important component for membrane integrity of fungal cell. Salysilic acid have effect keratolitic. Pityrosporum ovale is assumed to play an important role in evoking dandruff. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of 90% honey, 1% salicylic acid and 1% ketoconazole in vitro to the growth of Pityrosporum ovale on dandruff. Method: This study was done by an experimental design. Samples were 30 patients of dandruff with clinical founding and for the last 3 days, are not having shampoo, with positive result of Pityrosporum ovale culture. Diagnosis of Pityrosporum ovale was based on the result of microscopic examination of samples using KOH 10% and blue black parker ink, and inoculation on the SDA olive oil was added by chlorampenicol 50μg/cc medium at 370 C for 3 days. The colonies of Pityrosporum ovale were diluted in steril 0,9% NaCl to make the solution equal to 0,5 Mc Farland standar, As many as 0,1 cc of solution was cultivated on the olive oil SDA media supplemented with 90% honey, 1% salycilic acid and 1% ketoconazole, and then the media were incubated at 370 C for 3 days. The difference proportion of growth was analyzed by chi square test with degree of significance of p<0,05. Result: 30 media of olive oil SDA which contained 90% honey, all were found (-) / absence Pityrosporum ovale growth. 30 media which contained 1% salicylic acid, 29(32,2%) were found positive Pityrosporum ovale growth and 1 (1,1%) were found negative/absence Pityrosporum ovale growth. 30 media which contained 1% ketoconazole, 5 (5,6%) were found positive Pityrosporum ovale growth and 25 (27,8%) were found negative/absence. Pityrosporum ovale growth. The result of the chi square test is there is significant difference between the effectiveness 0f 90% honey with 1% salisilic acid also 1% ketokonazol ( p=0,000 ) Conclusion: There is significant difference between the effectiveness of 90% honey, 1% salysilic acid and 1% ketokonazole in inhibiting the growth of Pityrosporum ovale on dandruff, honey 90% can be alternative for dandruff treatment but salicylic acid can’t do so. Key words : Ketombe, Pityrosporum ovale, 90 % honey, 1% salicylic acid, 1% Ketoconazole
