Abstract
Background : prevalence of severe septic are still high. Bacterial infection is the most common cause of septic shock that needs to be detected as soon as possible to reduce it’s mortality rate. Objective : to analyze the diference of bacterial growth between simultaneous blood sampling and sequential blood sampling among septicaemic patiens at RSDK Semarang. Subject and method : an analytic observational study using cross sectional design was conducted at RSDK Semarang, January to April 2008. Total sample were 134 patiens. The data about vital sign and patien’s diagnose was collected from the medical record. The patiens blood were examined and cultured to identify the species of bactery that cause the infection. Result : the study showed that 37,3% of patiens were positive in the result of their blood culture. The frequency of bacteremia is higher in older patient. The main ethiologies of bacteremia or sepsis are Staphylococcus, Enterobacter, E coli and Pseudomonas. Using fisher’s test was found blood sampling technique and blood culture result observation (p=0,323). Conclution : there were no significant relation between blood sampling technique and blood culture result. Key words : bacteremia, blood sampling technique, septicaemia.
