Abstract
Background : Bacterial vaginosis (BV) in pregnancy was highly correlated with preterm birth and abortion. Considered the risk of BV, amine test that is simple, fast and easy to screen BV among in pregnant women is needed. Objective: To evaluate accuration and external reliability of Amine test to screen BV in pregnant women. Method: This study was a diagnostic test. Eighty three pregnant women were joined in this test. Inclusion criteria’s were trimester 2 and 3 that checked their pregnancy in Poncol Primary Health Care (PHC), Semarang between May-July 2007. We excluded sample that not willing to join this study, pre amnionic rupture, and committed coitus in 24 hours before test. Amine test was done independently investigator and midwife, then compete blindly to Gram stain examination of vaginal smear. Result : Amine test has 83,33 % sensitivity; 50% specificity; 31,91% PPV; 91,43% NPV. The reliability of this test was 0,765. Conclusion : Even though the specificity of Amine test is low, this test has high sensitivity and good reliability. In the screening test high sensitivity is needed more than specificity. Therefore, amine test can be used as tools to screen BV in pregnant women. Key words : BV, amine test
