PERBANDINGAN EFEK TIMOLOL DENGAN KOMBINASI TIMOLOL + ASETAZOLAMID PADA TERAPI INSIAL GLAUKOMA PRIMER SUDUT TERBUKA

Abstract

Background : Glaucoma is the second lead cause blindness in the world which is Primary Open Angle Glaucoma more frequent than Angle Closeure. At Indonesia, based on Survey Kesehatan Indera Penglihatan dan Pendengaran 1993-1995, 1.5% people have blindness cause by cataract (0,78%), glaucoma (0,20%), refraction abnormalities (0,14%), retina dysfunction (0,13%) and cornea abnormalities (0,78%). Intra ocular pressure is only risk factor which can be controlled to prevent the glaucoma progress. Purpose : To compare intra ocular pressure reduction between timolol maleat 0.5 % and timolol maleat + asetazolamid combination as an initial therapy POAG Method : This study is a descriptive analytic study with retrospective approach. The respondents of this research were POAG patients in RSUP. dr. Kariadi, Semarang. This study was held on May till June 2008. There were about 50 respondents of this research who fulfilled the criterias. The data was analyzed using SPSS 15.0 for windows by Mann-Whitney test. Result : There was significant difference intra ocular reduction between patient who get combination timolol maleat 0,5% - diamox and who get timolol as mono therapy, with p=0,027(p<0,05). Conclusions: The combination dose timolol maleat 0,5 % diamox reduces intra ocular pressure more than single therapy timolol maleat 0,5 % as a initial therapy Key Words : Intra ocular pressure, timolol maleat 0,5%, POAG
