Abstract

this tube which causes the surface area becomes larger, so that if CNT’s are used as adsorbent of cigarette smoke pollutant, then these pollutants will be optimally adsorbed by the CNT’s. Fabrication of CNT’s was done by spray pyrolysis method using benzene as carbon source and ferrocene as a catalyst, with the temperature pyrolysis process at 900 oC. Fabricated product was purified using HNO3 as washing solution which have concentration of 65 %. The CNT’s were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Disspersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS). The concentration of cigarette smoke pollutants which adsorbed by CNT’s using gas chromatography (GC) and active group analysis CNT’s before and after the adsorption using a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). SEM and EDX analysis showed that CNT’s have been formed but still contains impurities such as catalyst metal Fe and oxygen. The GC data showed CNT filter adsorption process without purification according by physically reaction. For the purificated CNT’s filter, adsorption process according by chemical reaction, where the concentration data from the GC analysis only solvent concentration. In addition, FTIR spectra of CNT’s data before and after adsorption spectra showed the shift of the carbonyl group within the CNT.
