Abstract
Background : Dandruff is clinical manifestation of seborrheic dermatitis which occur excessive scalp scalling without any inflamation signs. Dandruff has clinical feature of small white or grey flakes that accumulate on the surface of scalp. Pityrosporum ovale was predicted as one of the cause dandruff. Ketoconazole is a broad spectrum antimycotic that inhibits ergosterol synthesis, which is important for fungi‘s membran cell integrity. Kecubung leaves is considered as anti-dandruff property. Objective : To prove how far the difference of effectivity between 100% kecubung ( Datura metel L. ) leaves squeeze and 1% ketoconazole by in vitro method to the growth of Pityrosporum ovale. Method : This is an experimental study. Squama was collected from scalp scrapping of patient with dandruff whose met the inclusion criteria. They were cultivated on the Sobouraud Dextrose Agar olive oil at 37ºC for 5 days. The colonies were diluted in steril NaCl 0,9% to make the solution equal to 0,5 Mc Farland standart. Then 0,1 cc of solution was cultivated on the SDA olive oil that contained of 100% kecubung leaves squeeze and 1% ketoconazole. The medias were incubated at 37ºC for 5 days. The data was analysed by chi-square test with p ≤ 0,05. Result : All of 30 medias which contained 100% kecubung leaves squeeze were found possitive for Pityrosporum ovale growth. Meanwhile of 30 medias which contained 1% ketoconazole, 5 were found possitive for Pityrosporum ovale growth. The result of chi-square test is significant, p = 0,000 ( p < 0,05 ). Conclusion : Kecubung leaves squeeze has no inhibition effect to Pityrosporum ovale growth Key Words : Dandruff, Pityrosporum ovale, Ketokonazole, Kecubung ( Datura metel L. ) leaves.
