Abstract
Background: There are many electrical burn cases that finally involve the court. Forensic literature reports death, that is caused by electrical current in water , doesn’t always have a specific representation. Because of that, this experiment is expected to be able to have a significant contribution in medicolegal substance. Purpose: To define association between duration of alternating current exposure in water and degree of muscle damage in Wistar rats Method: This experimental research used the post only control group design. 25 Wistar rats were devided into five groups. Each group consisted of 5 Wistar rats. The K group weren’t treated and constituted as control group. The P1, P2, P3 and P4 group were discharged using 220 volts and 100mA current with duration of 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds, and 20 seconds. The extremity muscles were taken and stained using Hematoxylin Eosin. Results: Fisher’s exact test resulted a significant association between duration of alternating current exposure and degree of extremity muscle damage in Wistar rats (p=0,0015) Conclusion: there is an association between duration of alternating current exposure in water and extremity muscle damage in Wistar rats. Keyword: duration of exposure, degree of extremity muscle damage
