Abstract

Background: In long death, post mortem interval estimation using definite signs became difficult. One alternative is examination of organisms which breed on corpse, like flies. If the fly larvae age has knew with its length measurement, then minimal post mortem interval will be known. Will this experiment have high correlation and get similar result with previous experiment if doing in Semarang. Methods: Observational experiment using 7 healthy male wistar rats, age 3-4 months and weight 250-300 gram that get cervical dislocation. When found larva under sample, five greatest larvae will be taken from each sample. Taking larva is doing everyday on the same hours. Larva getting death by 600C water then drowned in 70% alcohol solution in 24 hours. Then the larva length measurement was doing use caliper. Examination of posterior spiracle was doing on the latest larvae taken. Results: The experiment showing 24 hours after death, average of larva length is 4-5 mm, 48 hours after death 8-11 mm, 72 hours after death 18-19 mm. There is high correlation between the larvae length with post mortem interval. One of the larvae identified is larvae Sarcophaga sp. Conclusion: The length of larvae on dead body has high correlation with post mortem interval, but still influenced with external factor especially temperature and humidity, which is need more experiment.
