Abstract

Background : Kombucha tea, also known as “jamur dipo”. Is made from water tea sugar fermentation by symbiotic colony bacteries Acetobacter xylinum and yeast. Indonesian society believes it as a medicine. Liver is a place which medicines and other toxic subtances are metabolized, include kombucha tea. Its effect on liver organ has not been observed yet . Objective : The objective of this study is to know the effects of kombucha tea on liver histological appearance of Balb/c mice. Method : The research’s design was post test only control group, with 20 Balb/c male mice, randomly divided into 4 groups: K group was control, only given aquades. P1 group given Kombucha tea per oral with sonde 0,26 ml 2x/day, P2 group given 0,39 ml 2x/day, P3 group given 0,52 ml 2x/day. After 35 days the mice were terminated and the liver was examined histologically. Result :The highest liver histological score was in P3 group. The score evaluate parenchymatous degeneration, hydropic degeneration, and necrosis. The Kruskal Wallis test showed significant difference (p=0,000). The Mann – Whitney test showed significant difference in K-P1(p=0,009), K-P2(p=0,009), K-P3(p=0,009), P1-P2(p=0,009), P1-P3(p=0,009), and P2-P3(p=0,009). Conclusion : Kombucha tea causes changes on liver histological appearance of Balb/c Mice as parenchymatous degeneration, hydropic degeneration, and necrosis according to dose. Keywords :Kombucha tea, liver histological appearance
