Abstract

Background: One of natural ingredients commonly used is bastard cedar for decreasing the body weight. Various doses of bastard cedar’s products sold in the market are not concerning the side effect. The objective of this research was to acknowledge the effects of bastard cedar leaves extract in leveled doses on kidney histopathological appearance of Wistar rat . Method: The research study used the post test only control group design. The sample was 25 Wistar rats and randomized into 5 groups. K group, which was aquades given was the control. Every P1, P2, P3 and P4 was only one times given by each bastard cedar leaves extract per oral with sonde 20 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, 2000 mg/kgBW and 6324.14 mg/kgBW. In the 8th day the rats were terminated. As the following the kidneys were measured upon the weight and volume. After that they were sliced with HE stain. The proximal convulated tubules of Wistar rat’s kidney were examined. Data were analyzed with ANOVA then continued by post hoc. test. Result: It was shown that the damage of proximal convulated tubules in the entire threaten groups were significantly higher than the control (p<0,05). There were also significant differences between control and all threaten groups on mesurement of the kidney weight but there was no significant difference for the measurement of kidney volume. Conclusion: Bastard cedar leaves extract causes changes on kidney histopathological appearance of Wistar rat by the dose of 20 mg/kgBW. The higher the dose, the higher the damage level of proximal convulated tubules upon the control and the threaten group. There was significant difference for the measurement of kidney weight but there was no existence of administering bastard cedar leaves extract upon kidney volume.
