PENGARUH PEMBERIAN JUS BUAH PARE (Momordica charantia) TERHADAP KADAR TRIGLISERIDA SERUM TIKUS WISTAR JANTAN YANG DIBERI DIET TINGGI LEMAK

Abstract

Background: The used of herbal medicine as an alternative medication has widely accepted in all over the world because it is trusted that herbal medicine has minimal side effect compared to modern medication. One of them is Bitter melon (Momordica charantia). In Indonesia bitter melon ,or known as Pare, is used as tradisional medicine or jamu. Little study was done in antihyperlipidemic effect of Bitter Melon. Vitamin B, vitamin C, and fiber in Bitter melon may decrease the level of triglyceride serum. In th is study, we examined the effect of different proportion of Bitter melon juice on triglyceride serum level in high fat diet of rats. Method: An experimental study using control group with pre and post test design was carried out on high fat diet of rats. 28 male Wistar rats were divided into four groups. Control group got 6 ml / day of aquades as a placebo and the other three groups were given high-fat diet concurrent with 2 ml of Biter Melon juice added with 4 ml of aquades, 4 ml of Bitter melon juice added with 2 ml of aquades, and 6 ml of Bitter melon juice with no addition of aquades. The dosage was given for 15 days of experiment. The experiment took 22 days including the seven days of adaptation phase. Triglycerides serum level was determined using enzymatic method (GPO-PAP). Data were analyzed using paired t-test and One Way ANOVA. Result: The administration of three dosage of Bitter melon juice were significantly (p=0,000) inhibited the increasing of the triglyceride serum level. Conclusion: The administration of 2ml, 4ml, and 6ml/day of Bitter melon juice significantly inhibited the increasing of the triglyceride serum level in high fat-diet rats.
