Abstract

Background : Jati belanda leaf is known as a traditional herbs to lose weight, but there hasn’t been any research to measure it safety standart. The objective of this experiment was to determine the potency of acute toxicity of the alcohol extract of jati belanda leaves which is shown as the LD50 value and to measure the changes of the weight between treatment groups. Method : This research adopted Laboratory Experimental The Pre and Post Test Control Group Design. Using 25 male Wistar rats divided into 1 control group and 4 treatment groups, each contain 5 rats. The control group (K) got only aquadest, treatment group I (P1) was given a suspension of 20 mg/kgBW of alcohol extract of jati belanda leaves. The P2 group had 200 mg/kgBW dose in its suspension, equal with usual dosage used in people, the P3 group got 2000 mg/kgBW and the P4 group was given the higest dose 6324,14 mg/kgBW. The suspension was given once and orally. Result : The alcohol extract of jati belanda leaves’ LD50 was higher than 6324,14 mg/kgBB. There were no toxic effects spectrum on rats during research. The statistic test using General Linear Models Repeated Measures on pre and post treatment weight showed significant differences between control groups (K) and P2, P3, P4 and also between P1 and P3. Conclusion : : The alcohol extract of jati belanda leaves was a practically non toxic substance and significantly decrease weight in treatment groups given with doses equal with or more than usual dosage used in people.
