PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK DAUN JATI BELANDA (Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk) DOSIS BERTINGKAT TERHADAP GAMBARAN HISTOPATOLOGI DUODENUM TIKUS WISTAR

Abstract

Background: Jati Belanda (Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk) is one of natural substances, used by people as a traditional medicine with tannin as one of its chemical compounds. High dose of tannin might cause excessive astringent effect leading to irritation on intestinal mucous membrane. The objective of this experiment was to know the effect of graded doses of Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk leaves extract in an acute manner on histopathological appearance of Wistar rats’ duodenum. Method: This research was an experimental study using The Post Test Only Controlled Group Design. The samples were 25 male Wistar rats divided into 1 control group and 4 treatment groups, each consisted of 5 rats. The control group (K) was only given aquadest for 7 days. The other group, P1 was given suspension of Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk leaves in alcohol extract with 20 mg/kg BW dose, P2 200 mg/kg BW, P3 2000 mg/kg BW, and P4 6324,14 mg/kg BW. The suspension was given orally on the first day of treatment. At day 8, the Wistar rats were terminated, and the duodenums were made into slides. The data were analyzed using the difference test of Friedman and Wilcoxon. Result: Friedman test showed significant difference between groups with p=0,014 (p<0,05). Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference between K and P3 (p=0,042), K and P4 (p=0,042), P1 and P4 (p=0,042). Conclusion: The study shown that Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk leaves in alcohol extract give a significant difference of duodenal histopathological appearance with control group, as erosion and ulceration, at high dose of treatment group (P3 with 10 of usual dose, and P4 with 31,62 of usual dose) Keywords: Jati Belanda, Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk, histopathological appearance of duodenum, graded dose
