Abstract
Background : It has been known that noise is a stressor which can induce physical, psychological, and behavioral changes. Noise can make hearing disorder that decreases the capability of communication, noise can also increase the incidence of hypertension and cardiovascular disorders. Moreover, noise may also modulate immune response. Differential count can represent the immune system to know the immune response change caused by noise. Objective : To prove the effect of noise with intensity > 85 dB to the differential count in Balb/c mice. Method : This research is experimental with Two Group Post Test-Only Control Group Design. It used 12 male Balb/c mice divided into two groups, Control group (K) which was not given any noise and Treatment group (P) which was treated by noise with intensity >85 dB. The differential count was done on the 3rd day. Result : There was no significant difference in eosinophile percentage (p=0.7), in basophile percentage (p=0.3), in stab percentage (p=0.2), and in monocyte percentage between K-P (p=0.4). There was significant difference in segment percentage (p=0.003), and in lymphocyte percentage between K-P (p=0.04). Conclusion : Acute extending noise could cause leucocyte differential count changes. The segment neutrophile percentage of the group treated by noise is higher (shift to the right) than control group and the lymphocyte percentage of the group treated by noise is lower than control group. Key words : noise, differential count, immune system.
