Abstract

Background: Anemia usually has a bad impact toward girl teenagers who suffer from it. The most frequent cause of anemia in girl teenagers is iron deficiency. The value of MCH can be used to measure the hemoglobin content per erythrochyte. Glycine, one of materials needed in Hb synthesis, has been assumed to have an impact in increasing iron absorbs ion. So it is hoped that glycine can increase the value of MCH. Purpose : This research is aimed to prove the impact of glycine addition toward the value of MCH in girl teenagers aged 12 -18 years old who were supplemented with iron. Method : This research uses Randomized Controlled Trial design. Twenty volunteers consisting of girl teenagers with Hb less than 12 were randomly designed into two groups: treatment group and control group. Then an initial measurement of value of MCH was done. Next, for five weeks, iron supplement was given to them. For the control group, the iron supplement was added with placebo, while for the treatment group, glysine was the addition. At the end of the research, the final measurement of value of MCH was conducted. The data gained, then, was tested with an Independent Sample T-Test to measure the differential change of inter group. The data process and analysis were done using SPSS program for windows 15,0 with the meaning degree, level of p<0,05. Result : The increasing value of MCH in treatment group is bigger than in control group after having been given glycine for five weeks. Independent sample T-test showed that p=0,110 (p>0,05). The result of this research proved that consumption of glycine gave a difference, but it is not significant. Conclusion : There is a difference value of MCH between the control and the treatment group in glycine addition given toward girl teenagers for five weeks, even though the difference is not significant. Keywords : Glycine, girl teenagers , iron supplementation, MCH
