Abstract

Background : Iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls has a high prevalence in the world. Glycine,as one of material to produce hemoglobin,is reasonable to be considered as alternative solution. Hemoglobin level that lower than normal may indicate anemia.. Objective : In order to prove the effect of glycine suplementation hemoglobin level adolescent girls who get iron supplementation Method : This research was a true experimental study using Randomized Control Trial design. Sample consisted of 17 adollescent girls with light-moderate anemia , divided into two groups ,control group(received iron+placebo) and treatment group (received iron+glicin). The first hemoglobin level were examined in both group. After five weeks treatment ,the hemoglobin level were examined again. The data were processed with SPSS, using Shapiro Wilk, paired t-test, Wilcoxon and independent t-test Result : The result showed the control group mean hemoglobin level before the treatment was 11,7±0,2 mg/dl and after the treatment was 11,8±0,9 mg/dl (p=0,778).The treatment Group mean hemoglobin level before the treatment was 10,9±0,6 mg/dl and after the treatment was 11,5±0,2 mg/dl (p=0,119). While the control group mean difference hemoglobin level was 0,05±0,92 mg/dl and the treatment group was 0,6±1,03 mg/dl (p=0,267) Conclusion : There is no difference hemoglobin level between control and treatment groups in glycine supplementation which given to anemic adolescent women Keywords : Glycine, adolescent women, iron supplementation, hemoglobin
