PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK KULIT BUAH RAMBUTAN (Nephelium lappaceum L.) TERHADAP KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL SERUM PADA TIKUS WISTAR

Abstract

Background: Epidemiological study shows that the increase of total cholesterol level as a major risk of coronary heart disease. Rambutan pericarp contains saponin as a phytochemistry. Saponin can improve lipid profile significantly by interaction with cholesterol. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of rambutan pericarp extract on cholesterol total serum level of wistar rats. Methods: This study was experimental study with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The sample were 28 males 8 weeks wistar rats, that randomly allocated in 4 groups. The control group (K) was given standard diet. The first treatment group (P1) was given standard diet and 1 g egg yolk diet. The second treatment group (P2) was given standard diet and 200 mg rambutan pericarp extract. The third teatment group (P3) was given standard diet, 1 g egg yolk diet and 200 mg rambutan pericarp extract. Data were collected from total cholesterol serum level. Data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 for Windows. Result: Total cholesterol serum level of control group is (67,4429 ± 5,33920) which lower than (P1 74,1286 ± 4,14825) and P2 (70,5833 ± 4,06345) but higher than P3 (67,2000 ± 4,85475). One Way Anova Test between groups were insignificantly different (p=0,688, p>0,05). Conclusion: Rambutan pericarp extract is not proven to reduce the total cholesrerol serum level.
