Abstract
Background : Chloramphenicol is a broad spectrum antimicrobial used to tifoid therapy. If it given in excessive doses at long time, it can cause hepatotoxic, which indicated by the raising of intracellular hepatic enzymes in vasculer, such as Alkali Phospatase (ALP). Green tea (Camelia sinensis) contains polifenol (catechin) that can reduce liver cell damaged and prevents liver cancer growth. K.imai and K.Imachi experiment showed the green tea can prevent liver cell damaged that indicated by significant lowering level of SGOT and SGPT serum. Objective : to prove the hepatoprotector effect of polifenol in green tea by measuring serum ALP level as indicator of liver damaged in Wistar rat given chloramphenicol. Methods : This true experimental use The Post Test Control Group design. The population of this experiment werw obtained from healthy female Wistar Rats, about 7-9 weeks old and ± 125 gram in weight, which divided randomly into three groups and ten rats in each group. The Control group (K) was only given physiologic NaCl in 21 days. The first treatment group (P1) and the second treatment group (P2) were given Chloramphenicol 25 mg/kg weight on the sixth day up to 21th day. But before, since on first day up to 21th day, P2 group was given boiled water of green tea 165 mg twice a day. On the 22th day, we took the rat’s blood from abdominal vein to measure the level of serum ALP. The data were processed by SPSS 11,5 for windows used the normalitas test of Saphiri-Wilk, homogenous test, One Way Anova test and Post Hoc analysis. Results : Administrassion of green tea 165 mg twice a day in 21 days can not reduce significantly serum ALP level of Wistar rat in P2 group. Conclusion : Administrassion of green tea 165 mg twice a day in 21 days can not protect the liver of rat Wistar given Chloramphenicol 25 mg/kg weight/day. Key Words : Polifenol, Catechin, Green Tea, Chloramphenicol, serum ALP, liver damaged
