MAKNA HIDUP DALAM DINAMIKA EKSISTENSI TOKOH SILAS MARNER DALAM NOVEL SILAS MARNER KARYA GEORGE ELIOT SEBUAH PENDEKATAN PSIKOLOGI EKSISTENSIALISME

Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis wants to analyze the existential dynamic of human being that is reflected by the character of Silas Marner in the novel of Silas Marner by George Eliot. The other purposes of this thesis is analyze about meaning of life in every existential condition of Silas Marner. The analysis uses intrinsic and existential psychology method, that is Logoterapy. Basic concepts of Logoterapy that is used in this analysis are freedom, responsibility, spirituality, and meaning of life. In Logoterapy by Victor Frankl, there are three sources of meaning of life. First, creative value, that is from work and actualize the ability or skill. The second, experiential value, that is from the experience of love and affection. The last value is attitudinal value, that is from the attitude to face the fate that can not be changed in every moment. Even in the suffering there will be a meaning inside. In intrinsic method, will be analyzed about theme, characters, symbol, plot, and setting. Every intrinsic elements in this novel supports the analysis of the meaning of life in existential dynamic of Silas Marner. The analysis will give a contribution of analysis in the novel by using existential psychology, specially in Logoterapy. Logoterapy is useful for analyzing a literary work that involves some existential conditions in the characters. Some moments that are happened in the characters’ life show an existential dynamic that is undergone by human being in the real life. In every existence, people always look for the meaning in their life. Meaning of life will keep a person has purpose in running his/her life. By Logoterapy, meaning of life can be dig out deeply. 10 ABSTRAKSI Penelitian ini ingin menganalisis tentang dinamika eksistensi manusia yang direfleksikan oleh tokoh Silas Marner dalam novel Silas Marner karya George Eliot. Tujuan lain dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis makna hidup dalam tiap kondisi eksistensi Silas Marner. Penelitian menggunakan metode intrinsik dan psikologi eksistensialisme, yakni dengan Logoterapi. Konsepkonsep dasar dari Logoterapi yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah konsep kebebasan, tanggung jawab, spiritualitas, dan makna hidup. Teori Logoterapi yang dikemukakan oleh Victor Frankl menjabarkan tentang tiga sumber makna hidup yang didapat dari nilai dalam karya, nilai dalam cinta, dan nilai dalam bersikap. Setiap unsur intrinsik dalam novel yang terdiri dari tema, penokohan, latar, plot, dan simbol mendukung dua tujuan dari penelitian, yakni tentang analisis dinamika eksistensi dan makna hidup dalam eksistensi tersebut. Penelitian ini dapat memberikan sumbangan terhadap analisis novel dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikologi eksistensialisme, khususnya dengan teori Logoterapi. Logoterapi bermanfaat dalam menganalisis suatu karya sastra yang melibatkan berbagai kondisi eksistensi dari para tokohnya. Berbagai peristiwa yang dialami para tokoh dalam suatu karya sastra, terutama novel, menggambarkan suatu dinamika eksistensi yang dialami manusia pada umumnya. Dalam tiap keberadaannya tersebut, manusia senantiasa mencari makna dalam hidup yang membuatnya memiliki arah dan tujuan dalam menjalani hidupnya. Dengan metode Logoterapi, makna tentang kehidupan yang penting dapat digali lebih jauh.
