Abstract

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterial pathogen in humans that often cause infections in both community and in hospitals. Along with the development of the less rational use of antibiotics in hospital, cause the same strain of S. aureus resistant to multiple antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence factors related health care on the incidence of infection and resistance patterns S. aureus in Dr Kariadi hospital. Method: This study used a cross sectional study. The sample used in the study was obtained from medical records of Dr. Kariadi in the period 2008-2009 that meet the criteria for inclusion and exclusion. Clinical material which was then traced to his clinic for laboratory examination. The analysis in this study used bivariate tests and mulrivariat test. Results: The results of bivariate and multivariate analysis were not obtained value of p <0.05 for all variables. The finding show that there is no any meaningful influence between variable lenght of stay, treatment class, giving antibiotics, administration of immunosuppressive and invasive measures during the treatment on the incidence of infection and resistance patterns of S. aureus. Conclusion: Health care related factors did not influence the incidence of infection and resistance patterns of S. aureus. Keywords: Staphylococcus aureus, infection, resistance patterns, health care related factors
