Abstract
Background: Lead is a toxic substance that is often used for motor vehicle fuel mixture that will be issued through the smoke of vehicles. People are often exposed to smoke at high risk for air vehicles that contain lead and may result in harm our health. This research aimed to investigate the effect of lead at highway’s air on testis’s microscopic appearance an lead blood level of male Balb/c mice. Methods: An experimental post test only control group design research was applied in 24 male Balb/c mices. They were divided into 1 control group (K) and 3 treatment groups (P). K was not exposured by air contained lead. P1, P2, and P3 exposured by air contained lead with exposure time: 4 hours; 8 hours; and 12 hours daily. After 1 month treatment period, histopathological appearances were examined and the index of histopathology was assesed by using modified Johnsen’s score, and measurement of lead blood level. Result: P3 index histopathological median that valued 61,00 (30; 82) was the highest value of all median. Then from the lowest median, respectively: P2 (42,00); P1 (30,00); and K (22,00). Kruskal Wallis presented significant differences (p=0,007). Man Whitney presented significant differences between the control group with P2 group (p=0,009) and control group with P3 group (p=0,006). P3 lead blood level mean that valued 48,8760 (25,05067) was the highest value of all mean. Then from the lowest mean, respectively: P2 (42,0800); P1 (32,6400); K (17,5400). One Way Anova presented no significant differences (p=0,062). Conclusions: there were significant differences between testis histopathological appearance of Balb/c mice administrated by air contained lead with exposure time 8 hours and 12 hours compared with control group after 1 month period, and no significant differences of lead blood level.
