Abstract

Background : Nowadays, most people commonly use roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyces steepings as healthy drink. One of an active substances which can be found is antosianin. Antosianin is natural red pigmen which has characteristic acid. The more red colour of roselle calyces steepings must be more acid. That acid is proven can cause ephitelial mucous gaster irritation which can fall into peptic ulcers condition. The aims of this study is to know the effects of roselle calyces steepings to the histologic appearances of gaster’s wistar rats. Methods : The research’s design used Post Test Only Control group with 20 wistar male rats which are randomly devided into 4 groups. K group was control which was given aquadest and standard meals, P1 gruop was given roselle calyces steepings per oral with sonde 40 mg/day and standard meals, P2 group was given 60 mg/day, P3 group was given 90 mg/day. After 30 days the rats were determinated and gaster was examined microscopically. Result: The highest gaster histological degenation score was in P3 group. The score is evaluated based on ephitelial desquamation, erosion of ephitelial surface until fall into ulceration. The Kruskal Wallis test showed significant difference (p=0001).Then, The Mann Whitney–U test showed significant difference in K-P1 (p=0,008), K-P2 (p=0,008), K-P3 (p=0,008), P1-P3 (p=0,008), and P2-P3 (p=0,044) while there is no difference between P1-P2 (p=0,090). Conclution : Roselle ( Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyces steepings cause changes on gaster histological appearances of wistar rats as ephitelial desquamation, erosion of ephitelial surface and ulceration according to gradual doses. Keyword : roselle ( Hibiscus sabdariffa ), histologic appearances of gaster
