Abstract

Background : Semarang is endemic city for leptospirosis in Indonesia with an increased incidence every year. Surveillance and its mapping is needed to help directing the preventive measures and consequently, reduce the incidence. Objectives : To identify and analize the distribution of leptospirosis cases in Semarang spatially and temporally. Methods : A cross sectional design have been used. Secondary data was obtained from leptospirosis registry in Semaran.g. The primary data of patients’ residences astronomical location (latitude and longitude) were obtained by GPS recording. The data were descriptively analyzed by means of Microsoft Excel 2003 and ArcView GIS 3.3. Results : Research’s subject consisting of 110 men and 61 women. The age ranged from 1 to 78 and the incidence peaked in 1-10 age group (33,3%).Peak incidence was occured in July 2009 (24,6%) and the districts with the highest incidence was Tembalang (51,5%). Leptospirosis cases tend to cluster in area of high population density and follow the pattern of river flow. In high total rainfall months the distribution pattern shift to flood area. Conclusion : Leptospirosis cases tend to cluster in area with high population density, follow the pattern of river flow and the distribution pattern shift to flood area in months with high total rainfall number. Preventive measures could be aimed primarily in those areas. Key Words : leptospirosis, spatiotemporal analysis, GIS
