Abstract

Background : Nutmeg (Myristica fragan Houtt) is one of the traditional herb. The one of benefit is used as an analgetic. The aim of this research is to know the effect of the nutmeg to reduce the writhing. Method : The experimental research design use Post Test Only Group design with 25 Balb/c mice male, have 15 – 30 gram weight, and an 2 – 3 months age. They are divided in 5 groups. P1, P2, P3 were given 0,4 mg/20 gr BW, 0,8 mg/20 gr BW and 1,6 mg/20 gr BW extract ethanol nutmeg. K – group as a negative control group which was given cmc. K + group as a positive control group which was given 1,3 mg/20 gr BW. After 15 minutes all the group are infected 1 ml acetic acid 0,1 % intraperitoneal. Each mice ingroups counted mice writhing each 5 minutes in 15 minutes. All data were analyzed with SPSS 15.0 for the windows. Result : The result from the Post Hoc Test showed significant differences in K – with P2; K – with P3; P1 with P3; P2 with P3; K + with K -; K + with P1; K + with P2, while there is no significant differences in K – with P1; P1 with P2; K + with P3. Conclusion : The extract ethanol nutmeg can cause the quantity of the mice writhing which is injected by acetic acid 0,1 %. More high doses must give more effect to reduce the pain is given. But aspirin still be more effective than each gradual doses as the extract ethanol nutmeg. Keyword : Extract, Nutmeg, Writhing, Aspirin
