Abstract

Background: There are many effects of benzodiazepine premedication, once of them is snoring. The other effect are calm, restless reducer and ordinary sleep. Upon the intramuscular diazepam and midazolam pre-medication, the incidence of snoring is caused by the presence of partial obstruction of upper respiratory tract by lower tongue during the deep sleeping condition. Snoring in the long and undetected period causes hypoxia and turns to fatal effect. The research purpose is to compare between the effect of intramuscular diazepam and midazolam pre-medication on the incidence of snoring. Method: The research used the post test only control group design. The research samples are 40 patients divided into 2 groups randomly, group I was control group and group II was treatment group. The used anesthesia is the spinal anesthesion, with 5% lidocain hyperbaric and number 23G terumo spinal needle. The research is completed upon doubled blind technique, whereas, either the examiner or the patient does not know what medicine applied as pre-medication. The research activity is started with the measuring of tension, pulse, and respiration rate before the pre-medication. After the pre-medication medicine injection, the patient is observed upon the depth level of sedation. Data was collected and analyzed by chi-square test. Result: The study result shows that the existence of different snoring incidence gives significance to the treatment group compared to the control one (p<0,05) Upon the measurement of age, sex, weight, respiration process, systolic pressure, and diastolic pressure, there is insignificant difference (p>0,05). Conclusion: the incidence of snoring in intramuscular midazolam pre-medication is more than in intramuscular diazepam pre-medication. Key words: snoring, pre-medication, diazepam, midazolam
